Tucked in a serene canyon dotted with oaks, the San Rafael Hills home was an extensive restoration/ renovation project completed in 2023. The house was originally designed and built by Robert Duncan Haugaard Jr. A. I. A. (1956) for his family, and sold as a tear down. As designer, developer and builder, KM’s intention was to preserve as much of the integrity of the home as possible while repairing and updating all systems. KM took extreme care to artfully preserve the original doors, windows, and wood, evolving the home with its original materials to create the feeling that it’s always been this way.
New materials were selected that blend and enhance with the home's strong geometric details and warmth. The bathrooms feature plaster walls, terrazzo and limestone and bookmatched marble in the primary bath. Cherry cabinets and quartzite counters in the kitchen elegantly complement the original wood ceilings. The original carpet was replaced with oak floors. The landscaping, including a new pool was extensively re-done with the help of Terremoto.
