Set amid a lush canopy of oak trees in La Canada Flintridge, this mid-century ranch was originally built in 1961. It was later renovated by renowned architect Buff and Hensman in 1980, who added an inspired carport, guest house, and exterior hardscape. Then in the 90's it suffered an unfortunate update with pink woods and crown molding that undermined the integrity of the home's original design. In this historic preservation project and gut renovation, KM invoked the original spirit of the home, selecting soulful materials that play off the original flagstone and green slate. Book-matched quartzite in the primary bath mirrors the form of the mountain view. The kitchen was expanded by relocating the laundry thereby improving the flow of the home. Leathered quartzite in the kitchen echoes the form of flagstone. The pool and deck were also fully renovated. Terremoto was brought on to breath new life into the landscaping. They designed trails that start at the house weave up property. Oak slab benches artfully placed under oaks invite contemplation and a place to slow down and enjoy the beauty of nature.
